Macho Macho, uh, Woman
"Gaucha goal, get in!" White Swans manager Tony Brazil cheers, "it's been a tense first half here at Gretna as the home side have been all over us but with our first attack we have scored to lead one nil. Scored no less than by our new signing Gaucha; the young forward was assisted by our other young forward 'Jitterbug' Yttervag. We've got a new striking partnership on our hands!"
Early in the second half Brazil is on his feet cheering again, "Jitterbug twisting and turning on a breakaway slalom through Gretna's defenders then slipping it past the keeper. Two nil, the striking partners get a goal apiece and the future is looking bright."
The match ends with Swans beating Gretna 2-0, and Tony Brazil notes the contribution Gaucha made, "she's off the mark now with this debut goal for us. The first of many I'm sure in her partnership with Jitterbug; we just need to find her a nickname. The fans were singing in her honour a mangled version of Villlage People's Macho Macho Man, 'Gaucha, Gaucha Woman'.
"That chant doesn't sit well with me. Firstly it is outside the glam rock sound and era parameters of our guidelines for chants, secondly it doesn't work with the extra syllable at the end, thirdly," Brazil raises his eyebrows, "with that clunky ending how can our fans ruin such a great song?"
Brazil thinks of the song Macho Macho Man later when back at the Blitz Ballroom; plays it and starts to dance, increasingly joined by members of the backroom staff. They're having a whale of a time until Rakhel Mahakim walks in and catches them. CCTV footage of this here.
