Looking forward to top flight campaign
The Wondering Trotters manager told his reporters his team were 'living the dream' after winning promotion to the top flight of Final League football but that to stay up would be the toughest task his side had ever faced.

"Let's not con ourselves. Next season is going to be incredibly difficult. Some of the sides in that division have much more talented squads than ours. If we can finish the season in just fifth position that would be a huge achievement. I've always taken the approach with this side of having a balanced age structure so that there's youngsters coming through. That could hinder us this season as we'll always end up with a slightly weaker player in any starting eleven.

"I'm generally pleased by the way the change report has gone but it has left us with some difficulties. We've got just under five million econ in the bank and spending from that will likely include a round of training. Patricio Costinho has not been part of my long range plans for some weeks now. I was hoping he would get a decent improvement in the change report to give him some resale value. Unfortunately that was not to be. I'll try to sell him as an 18-4 but I don't expect much of a transfer fee and will probably end up clicking the sack button.

"There's been a strong improvement throughout the rest of the squad but I'm loathe to sell anyone. The older players will be needed to compete at this level. The younger ones are the future of the team. As it stands, they'll provide an even stronger first eleven in five seasons time than we have now and I don't want to sacrifice that. I've made one offer for a veteran forward as that is the area the squad is particularly weak in. We'll find out if we've been successful in a few days but I'm not prepared to fork out a huge transfer fee.

"We'll get a new youth offer in a few days as well. The ideal scenario for us would be to get a strong asset who we can sell for a nice amount. I've set the talents to goalkeeper as I anticipate Heggs will retire within a couple of seasons, so it would be a difficult decision as to whether to sell or keep any talent.

"Otherwise we're just looking forward to the new season. The matches come out on Thursday but we already know who we're up against so I've been doing a lot of research. We have some experience against Tug4Zon3 Elite in the cup but all that taught us is that they're a fantasticly talented opponent. Hopefully we can get a run of easier matches to start the season to build up a points tally - although 'less difficult' would be an better description at this level. If we've falling behind after just a few games then it will be a long and tough season.

"A cup run would be a decent boost as well. We're going to need to put out a strong side in every league match we play, so if we can stay in the cup long enough to build up the younger players' DV, that would help. I suspect there will be a reduction in the league size however, which would give us a bye to the second round - from a development point of view, that's often a hinderance rather than a benefit.

"However, for the time being let's not worry about the future. We can still celebrate the fantastic achievements our club has made this season."
