What a difference 45 minutes makes |
As the players trudged off the pitch at half time, 3-1 down at home to 2nd bottom Bollarna, staring at an almost certain relegation and 3rd round cup exit, a lone voice from the shell-shocked crowd shouted - "come on Turf, we can do this!" I've no idea who that blind optimist was, but I'd like to shake his hand. It made my half time talk easy - I just repeated the same words.
While we haven't been playing badly this season, a misplaced pass here, scuffed shot there and a sprinkling of bad luck, have conspired to leave us pointless at the bottom of Division 3d, with just a couple of cup wins against a weak team to provide any cheer. When you're down, confidence goes and everything seems to be against you.
Then something happens, eventually, to bring you right back up again. Was that shout Turf's turning point? Who knows, time will tell.
But if the magnificent second half is anything to go by, it was. The players went back out on to the pitch with their heads held high an a steely determination to show how good they are. They dominated the second half and showed such clinical finishing as has never been seen at the Astro Bowl, converting their chances 4 times. Super sub Danny Simpson scored 2 of the goals and sent the crowd into delerium by sealing the win in the last minute with a sublime finish.
It's given us a glimmer of hope, but I believe we can do this, and so does Turf's half time guardian angel.
