Manager: Shephunter
Kings Tame Lions
The Switch City Kings travelled to the Lion Cage to take on the talented Lisbon Lions.  Manager Mr Shephunter knew that his side were entering a hostile situation and leaving with points would be quite an achievement.  They took the full three points to remain at the top of the Division 1a table.

As the teams lined up awaiting kick off, Mr Shephunter could see that the Lions were taking on the 352 formation and he immediately became nervous.  He knew the Lions had a very good midfield and this could spell disaster for his side.

The Lions were full of running from the moment the whistle blew to start the game.  Just 10 minutes in they had a shot on goal.  It proved to be little problem for Tiger Cat.  The Kings were struggling to keep up and their frustration was on full display when in the 20th minute Robbie Strummer elbowed Marcelino Passinha flush on the jaw.  Strummer was given a yellow card but could consider himself lucky not to be dismissed.

It took 28 minutes for the Kings to get into the game.  Following an unsuccessful free kick, Zeke Juhlin sent one over the crossbars.  Although wayward the signs were there that the Kings weren't going to cave.

On the stroke of half time, Herculano Vilas-Boas came agonisingly close to opening the scoring when his shot collected the right post.  Mr Shephunter couldn't wait to get a hold of his troops during the half time break.

The second half couldn't have started worse for the Kings.  Just 2 minutes after the resumption, Caetano Vaz succumbed to injury and had to be replaced.  Although a good young player, his replacement Alvar Rubiera wasn't of the standard of Vaz and would see the the Kings heavily against it in the midfield.

In the 62nd minute the Kings took the lead.  It was the old firm of Norm Ashwell and Vilas-Boas that did the damage.  Ashwell had come out of defence to get more men on the ball.  He sent a cross in from the right touch line which expertly found Vilas-Boas who headed the ball into the back of the net.  The Kings gratefully took the 1-0 lead.

Mr Shephunter brought on fresh legs in the 70th minute in Klas Ahlin and Desmond Broomes.  Whether this was the right thing to do with just the one goal lead remained to be seen.

Just 2 minutes after the changes Mr Shephunter looked like a genius for making the substitutions.  Ahlin fired the ball towards the goal but it took a deflection off the leg of Lions' defender Ricardo Sanchez.  The sudden change of direction was too much for the keeper and the ball trickled into the net.  At 2-0 the Kings were looking likely.

The Lions kept coming in the final stages of the game but fortunately for the Kings they warded off any challenge on their goal.  It was an important win for the Kings and the three points will be treasured.

Mr Shephunter was very pleased with the result. "We knew it would be tough coming here today and it proved to be.  We can consider ourselves very lucky to win given that we didn't have a lot of the ball.  Given those circumstances against a team with so many quality players, we did very well to keep a clean sheet.  I'm very happy with the way the lads played as a team.  That went a long way to delivering the win."

The Kings take on Sons Of Phoenix next which promises to be a fierce clash.  Both teams are undefeated after two games and will want to remain that way.  The Kings hold the advantage in head to head wins but every previous game between these two clubs has been tight.  The House Of Ashes should be at capacity.
