Kings Rise To The Occasion
The Switch City Kings and Sons Of The Phoenix entered the final game of season 38 with the knowledge that a spot in the playoff game was on the line.  The Kings were on the road facing Mußtang FC while SOTP had the tough task of travelling to face Division 1a winners Gamla Wasa BK.

The Kings had their destiny in their own hands.  A win would see them through to face the second placed side in Division 1b for a spot in the top flight.  While fans would have been glued to their tv's and wirelesses to see how SOTP were going, their beloved Kings were at Stango Dome ready to rumble.

As Mußtang FC and the Kings lined up to start the match it was apparent that both managers realised this game was going to be won in the middle.  The Stangs wanted to play an attacking brand with their 352 setup while the Kings went 451.

The opening 20 or so minutes were a tense affair.  Neither side were being overly adventurous but the Kings were building up confidence on the ball.  In the 29th minute the Kings opened the scoring.  The mounting pressure had earned the side a free kick and veteran defender Norm Ashwell accepted it gleefully.  As he has done many times before he sent a viciously curling ball up and around the wall before continually getting further out of reach of the keeper.  The Kings got the start they wanted.

It didn't take long before the Kings increased their lead.  In the 37th minute they went 2-0 up courtesy of Klas Ahlin.  The division's leading passer Herculano Vilas-Boas expertly threaded the needle with his pass to the flying Ahlin.  Ahlin slaughtered the offside trap and was in the clear with just the keeper to beat.  The keeper came at him but he placed the ball to the left with total class.

The first half was a tight affair with only 3 shots on goal.  However the Kings had the most of their 2 chances which pleased Mr Shephunter no end.  He told his players to do more of the same and they'd be going to the playoff game.

The Kings came out firing early in the 2nd half but couldn't find the back of the net.  With a 2 goal lead Mr Shephunter brought on fresh troops in the 70th minute.  Young players Des Broomes and Ignacio Guzman came on for valuable playing time.

It worked a treat with Guzman scoring in the 78th minute.  It was the young man's first career goal and what a beauty it was.  Darrell Holt spotted Guzman wide open possibly because of his apparent lack of talent.  Guzman didn't need to be asked twice and expertly slotted the ball into the back of the net.  Every single Kings player gathered around the rookie showing their delight with his efforts.

In the 80th minute the Kings were awarded a penalty.  Captain Franco Baressi made no mistake and made the score 4-0.  Unfortunately the joy was short lived as Baressi was forced from the field with a minor injury.  He is now in doubt for their important playoff clash.

The game ended shortly after with the Kings making sure they got a chance to play in the top flight by winning 4-0.  It was an emphatic display that has the team primed for a big showing in the big game.

Mr Shephunter was pleased to get the game out of the way after the stress of the past week.  "I'm very pleased with the result.  We're now in the playoff and heading into it in good form.  Hopefully captain Baressi can recover from his injury in time but we're not hopeful.  Commiserations to Sons Of The Phoenix and their manager MarkMurray.  They deserved their shot at promotion after only losing 1 game all season."
