Special Qualities-Do I need them? Part 1 |
I am currently about to go through a rebuild of my team so I thought that I would do a review of the special qualities and what is worth having / not having in the team.
I have spent a lot of time tracking players to try and work out the benefits of certain qualities. It is worth noting that the majority of qualities add very little to a team in comparison to skill and form. In most cases the quality converted to a skill benefit is usually up to a maximum of 5% i.e. for a 10 skilled player that is 0.5 skill and a 20 skill player it is 1 skill level. There are some exceptions and you will find details below of some of these. It should be noted that most of the qualities also have a downside to them as explained below.
Visible special qualities can be put into 3 pricing categories.
- Priced same as vanilla players - Stamina, Cool, All round
- Premium price - Intelligent, Quick, Header of ball, powerful shot, Goal instinct
- Extreme premium price - Free Kicks
If we look at some pricing and qualities we can understand the premium that gets paid for the 3 different groups. Please note prices quoted are at a single point in time and database from a players value.
We will start with a 17 year old 4 skill player since this is the most commonly bought player.
- 0.4m - 4 skill
- 2.0m - 4.2 skill after quality converted into skill
- 4.3m - 4.2 skill after quality converted into skill
- 5.7m to 6.7m for a 17 year old 5 vanilla player.
Next we will select a mid aged player 24 year old 11 skill player.
- 10.3m - 11 skill
- 15.0m - 11.55 skill after quality converted into skill
- 16.0m - 11.55 skill after quality converted into skill
- 14.7m for a 24 year old 12 skill player
Finally we will look at an older player 32 year old 14 skill player
- 4.5m - 14 skill
- 5.0m - 14.7 skill
- 5.0m - 14.7 skill
- 5.8m for a 32 year old 15 skill player
In all cases after converting the quality into a 5% skill benefit you would always be better purchasing a higher skilled player. However, even though I know this I still like to have some qualities in my team to create variation.
Below are my views of the qualities and whether you should purchase them.
Category 1 - Essential players
Leader
Pro - If highly skilled then can inspire rest of team to play better.
Con - If low skill then cannot inspire. If you have 2 leaders of similar skill then this will cause a problem in your team. You can still have 2 leaders as long as skill difference is large and higher skilled is Captain.
Decision - Purchase as adds value to whole team.
Price - This is a hidden quality so you can sometimes find them for a good price.
Free Kicks
Pro - Twice as good as a player without this quality.
Con - None
Decision - Purchase as you need a free kicker in your team. Skill makes a difference.
Price - This is the most expensive of qualities but is a must in any team as a lot of goals come from free kicks.
Category 2 - Should have players
Intelligence
Pro - My favourite quality. Best in forwards(get past opponents) and defenders(ward of chances). Not so good in a midfielder as tend to get marked all the time.
Con - None
Decision - Purchase as they will provide a good tactical advantage with any tactics.
Price - You will have to pay a premium for this player so read note below on price to skill / quality trade off.
Hard Trainer
Pro - Keeps form high
Con - Likes to play so form can drop if not played
Decision - Purchase as these will turn into highly skilled players.
Price - It is a hidden quality. You can sometimes pick up this quality cheaply.
Deep feelings
Pro - Will play 5% better and if losing will play an extra 3% better.
Con - Only receive this after 14 games or 3 months of being in your team and not transferable.
Decision - N/A but provides a 5% to 8% skill improvement
Price - N/A
Legend
Pro - Will play 5% better and if losing will play an extra 6% (3% for heart and 3% for legend) better.
Con - Only receive this after 100 games in your team and not transferable.
Decision - N/A but provides a 5% to 11% skill improvement
Price - N/A
Category 3 - Debatable
Moody
Pro - Can play up to 30% above normal skill depending on mood.
Con - Can play up to 30% below normal skill depending on mood
Decision - Purchase / Do not purchase. The moody players are all different. I have had some that regularly play above skill level, others that play regularly below skill level and others that fluctuate up and down. You will not know what you have until you have played them for a number of games. Only keep the ones that regularly play above their normal skill level.
Price - This is a hidden quality and can usually be picked up cheaply.
