XCL adventure comes to an agonizing end |
CFC Gun Crime managed perfect week number two in a row by winning all three games over the last week, "The first mention must go to the last round of XCL Group E games. The lads knew they needed to win at home to EX6 and hope that Zvezda didn't win by more than three goals more than us, well that's what they thought!!
"The lads last match was against EX6 and it saw them line up with a couple of their younger players but to ensure they couldn't lose by too many goals they played very defensively. By half time that tactic had worked with no chances created by either side. Zvezda had scored against Göteborg though so they were up to second place. The 69th minute saw a penalty to the lads which goalie Glock dispatched, one nil up and up to second place. Zvezda were two nil up but no worries the lads equaled that score with only ten minutes left to play."
"So the match petered out, ending in a two nil win to the lads though news filtered through that Zvezda had scored two late goals, the last one in the 89th minute, to win four nil, surely the lads were through to the knockout stages! By no!! Zvezda's win had drawn them level on goal difference with the lads and they'd now scored one more goal, they went through on goals scored!!! So close by so far from another two XCL games, the final table makes hard reading....
2 Zvezda FK 6 4 0 2 11 - 7 4 12
3 CFC Gun Crime 6 4 0 2 10 - 6 4 12
4 IFK Göteborg 6 0 0 6 0 - 17 -17 0
Prior to the EX6 game Gun Crime had played their latest game in the Power League cup against CF Galati, "Gun Crime lined up with a number of youngsters in the squad and by half time this showed with Galati leading one nil. A defensive sub saw the lads draw level soon after and luck was on our side when Galati had a goal disallowed. Another sub didn't seem to make much difference but with the last kick of the match Behremi scored the winner!"
That win saw X11 recognize the three wins in a week by awarding Seachel the Manager of the Week award for the first time, "Was starting to wonder what someone had to do to win that award."
"Last by not least this evening's league game at home to Norax FC, "A win was needed to keep the lads away from the drop zone and a win was what resulted, three nil. Funnily enough that's the first league home win for Gun Crime this season and we've only have one home game left to play!"
