Red Devils get a sniff
The Red Devils Of York hosted Division 3c leaders FC Sachsen Leipzig in what could be a season defining game.  A win to Sachsen would see them extend their lead in the title race and put them in a terrific position.  A win to the Red Devils would keep their hopes of promotion alive and give them confidence going forward.  Who would want it more?

The Red Devils entered the game with a knowledge that they could mix it with Sachsen after losing 4-3 in the 1st round with only 10 men.  On their home patch they were going to go hard.

The Burrow was pumping as the teams lined up for kick off.  As would be expected with 2 top sides, neither side gave the other an inch.  Slowly the Red Devils asserted their dominance in the midfield.  It took 20 minutes for this happen but you could tell they were building up to something.

In the 34th minute the pressure told on Sachsen, and they gave away a penalty when Broderick Hutton was felled in the box.  Emanuel Rangel took little time deliberating the spot kick and coolly slotted it into the the bottom right corner.  As it would turn out this was a very important goal.

Just before half time Hutton came agonisingly close to sending his side to the break 2-0 up but his shot grazed the outside of the post.  Mr Shephunter would have been happy with the way his side had controlled things in the first and would have reiterated more of the same was needed in the 2nd half.

Mr Shephunter boldly brought on 3 sets of fresh legs with just over 20 minutes to go.  Could this move to give his young players a run prove costly or would it fire up the older guys?  It was the former.  The Red Devils immediately started dictating play again.

Unfortunately for the home fans their team were unable to add to the scoreline.  However they would have taken great glee in the fact that they had taken the 3 points and now stood just 1 point off top spot.

Mr Shephunter was over the moon with the win.  "Super effort today.  We may have only won 1-0 but they never looked likely.  We controlled the ball well and denied them a single shot on goal.  Against the division leaders that's a huge shot of confidence to my lads.  Things are getting exciting with 3 games to go!"
