So first, the good news for all in Division 3d. Balka Juniors XV, the reluctant favourites, tripped up at the first hurdle and lost against Kung Fu Hustle.
'We were outplayed and just simply weren't good enough' said manager LukeFM. 'Now we're already 3 points behind in what will I think be a tighter season than most people are expecting'.
And now, the bad news for the XV's competitors. The result could prove to be a blessing in disguise for the club, as it has led to LukeFM significantly altering his 'masterplan' for the first time in over three (real life) years.
'We've known for a while, long before blah picked up on it, that the balance of players we have doesn't fit in with the modern game' he explained. '5-man midfields ruled the roost three years ago, but that was three years ago, and when I decided how many defenders, midfielders, and attackers to include in my 15 players, I was preparing for that changing'.
'But lo and behold, here we are in late 2014, and this is still a game of 352s and 451s'.
'The players we have now mean we have to play 442 far more often than we'd like to to ensure that everyone gets equal game time. That is why we underperformed last season, and that is why we lost three points this week'.
LukeFM is said to have 'slept on it, and crunched some numbers' and come up with a new rota which chucks out far more desirable formations. The only snag is that the XV is to become the XIV.
'We're losing a striker' he said. 'And it will be Calum Steyr'.
'Obviously he's a little bit gutted, he joined this project at the age of 16. But he dropped a skill path several seasons ago now and has never really recovered. He understands the decision'.
'It means we may struggle a little bit more with injuries and the like, but everyone is going to get a little bit more game time, so it's swings and roundabouts really'.
He also confirmed that the club will be looking to alter their suffix to XIV to recognise the one less player, however Xpert rules mean this may have to wait until the season's end.
In other news, LukeFM has described yet more attempts to take out the XV's keeper Fausto Benavent as 'an empty threat to rival those we saw from blah last season'.
