Leaving Nothing To Chance
After drawing nil all with Inter Takayama in the 1st leg of their 3rd round Cup tie, Cummins Honey Badgers knew they had to step up to avoid an early exit.  They had the advantage of playing on their turf but Mr Shephunter was leaving nothing to chance.

"Without sounding like a big headed jerk, the nil all result in the 1st leg came as a complete shock.  I had an inkling they'd adopt similar tactics in the return leg so I had to use a few more of my topliners."

Sure enough Takayama lined up at kick off with a 5 man defensive unit and would surely look to get the Honey Badgers on the counter.  Unlike last game where they struggled to score, the Honey Badgers were on the scoreboard early.  Just 10 minutes into the game Evan Cronan found himself on the end of some Emanuel Rangel brilliance.  Rangel showed that he still had the stuff of champions by sending a pin point pass into the box for Cronan to blaze away.

In the 28th minute the Honey Badgers doubled their lead thanks to a Simone De Bruno lob from outside the area.  With defenders looking to get involved more in attack this game, Mumtaz Mansiz spotted De Bruno lurking with intent. He passed to the open defender who let loose a rocket from 30 odd yards.  At 2-0 the home team were purring.

The half time whistle blew with the Honey Badgers enjoying a 2-0 lead.  Their intent was clear and had the same amount of shots on goal in the 1st half as they did in the entire 1st leg.  Although not wanting to get ahead of himself, Mr Shephunter was pleased with the way his side had played.

Not long after the restart of play, the Honey Badgers went 3-0 up.  Dragan Zunic handled the free kick expertly.  His shot on goal took a deflection off the wall and found itself into the back of the net.  Zunic would later claim that it was his intention to find the wall thus creating confusion for the keeper.  What a talent!

The Honey Badgers were enjoying extended periods of possession towards the back end of the game.  After coming on in the 70th minute as replacement, Max Adelgren showed his immense talent by scoring an injury time goal.  Not long after the referee blew the whistle for the final time with the Honey Badgers running out convincing 4-0 winners.

Mr Shephunter was pleased with the result.  "Following two games where we failed to score, I'm pleased we came out and scored a few.  Full credit to the opposition though.  I would have liked to have given more of my second stringers a game but I couldn't risk a repeat of the 1st leg.  We move into the fourth round but importantly some of my players who were struggling with form, gained some from this game.  All in all it was a handy result for us."
