Captain leads Honey Badgers to cup final
The Cummins Honey Badgers booked a spot in the Final League Cup Final with a hard fought 1-0 victory over CSU Cluj.  The Honey Badgers knew that their Swedish opponents would put up a hell of a fight in the Semi-Final and that's exactly how it turned out.  A late Emanuel Rangel goal delivered the win and a shot at Cup glory.

The game started in the worst possible way for the Honey Badgers when in the 5th minute CSU found the back the net. However, George Siasia was called offside in controversial circumstances,  replays showed that Siasia was in fact onside and the goal should have stood.  The Honey Badgers had dodged a bullet.

After a number of very close shots on goal the Honey Badgers opened the scoring on the 26th minute.  Mumtaz Mansiz had broken clear and easily beat the goalkeeper in a one on one situation.  Just as the celebrations started, it was noticed that the assistant had raised his flag indicating offside.  The crowd were getting increasingly agitated as once again the replay showed it was clearly a goal.  Was this to equal the rubbish call in the 5th minute?

The referee blew the whistle for half time with the score locked at nil all.  The 45 minutes went so quickly that players felt they were only on the pitch for 15 minutes.  Who would take control of the game in the second half?

The score could have been 2-2 if not for some great goalkeeping from both keepers and some rattled woodwork.  Felico Micillo was causing the Honey Badgers all sorts of troubles in front of goal but fortunately he couldn't find the mark.

With time fast running out it looked the game would be going to extra time.  Then in the 82nd minute Honey Badgers' captain Emanuel Rangel stepped up.  As any captain worth his salt he demanded the ball.  Mumtaz Mansiz spotted his leader crying out for the ball at the top of the square.  Mansiz delivered a crisp pass to Rangel who launched a rocket from about 30 yards.  His long bomb was delivered with such intensity that the defenders barely saw it sailing past and into the back of the net.  There was no way the referee was taking this one off them.  With just moments left in the game the Honey Badgers were now up 1-0!

Mr Shephunter screamed at his team to get tight all through the remaining 10 minutes.  Fortunately they were able to prevent their opponents from getting a shot on goal.  They were going to the big dance.

Mr Shephunter was pleased as punch to have won the game and to be going to the Cup Final.  "Wow!  That was intense.  I knew that CSU would be a tough proposition.  They are a quality side who were full of confidence.  I'm so proud of my lads to hang in there all game.  To get the winning goal with time nearly up just shows what a committed side they are.

"We're now into the Final and I couldn't be happier.  It wasn't our goal to get this far but now we are, we want to go all the way.  We are in for another tough game against last year's semi finalists Rated Alcochete."

Mr Shephunter is no stranger to the Cup Final after taking the Switch City Kings all the way in the Xpert League some seasons ago.
