Assistant manager no longer to make subs |
The club had wanted to reward it's longstanding assistant manager with the right to make substitutions, to show that we respect his judgement and insight.
This went spectacularly wrong against the Cornish Celts. Ashley Wynne had put us two up but the Celts were storming back into the match, and had pulled a goal back from Ernesto Reisinho. But we still looked well placed to take something from the game, leading 2-1 and with chances shared 3-3.
Then as the manager was temporarily distracted, possibly by something shiny, the assistant manager replaced captain Milton Quailey with teenage tyro Lorenzo Lonoria. As soon as he saw it the manager dashed over to try and intervene, grabbing hold of Lonoria and trying to drag him back off the pitch, but it was too late.
The Celts took control of midfield, and went on to win the game.
After that a 7-0 win in the Cup was limited recompense.
