Champions! |
Six years of hard and ambitious work, and finally the goal has been reached. Sonata Arctica are Champions of theSuper League.
More than six years ago a new team called Boston Teapacks was created with a new manager and started off in division 8:4 in season 15. They won the division, changed their name to Sonata Arctica, and as their manager I realized that I wanted to take them all the way to the top of the league and so the journey began.
That was six years ago.
A purposeful work began which demanded a lot of time and patience. For 15 seasons it was a struggle in the lower divisions, buying players, developing them and selling them. Both for money and to be able to rebuild the team in a way that would make it possible to reach the top division. Then, in season 31, the break came and Sonata Arctica won division 4b in an impressive way with 12 wins and two draws. The following three seasons included three division-victories and only seven losses in 42 matches.
This season was our first one in the top division and with teams and managers like Tour de France with Blu3red (ranked no.1) and Zabriskie Point with Duffster (ranked no. 4), two great managers with really powerfull teams, it was going to be really tough. In other words, the aim wasn't to counqer the title, but to at least be able to steal some points and give them a challenge.
But now, here we are. Sonata Arctica is on top of the league with all teams left a few points behind. The fight for the title immediately became a three-horse race when the season started, and all three took turns at taking the top spot. That was until game number 10 where Sonata Arctica, with a little bit of luck, fought of Tour de France at home and took the lead and never let it go again.
There where moments where I strongly doubted our chances, such as when Tour de France completely hammered us at their stadium 5-1, but the players kept going, kept scoring and kept winning.
Derick Agnew has been a keyplayer for the team from when he joined and showed this season that he´s for sure one of the top 3 best freekick takers in the league and registers for both most goals and most points in the top division, closely followed by Alf Rae.
This victory means the end of a a journey, a journey from division 8:4 to becoming the champions of Super League. But as it does, a new journey starts. Sonata Arctica won't fade away, they will stay and try to make a permanent impression.
The key to succeed? Hard, ambitious and humble work spiced up with a lot of respect.
