Hanging around a bit longer
Excitement had been building up all week in the lead up to the final round of the Final League.  The reason being that four teams still had realistic chances of staying in the top flight.  Unfortunately there were only three spots available so the stakes were high.

For the Honey Badgers, they could cement their place with a win over Skyrim.  However if they lost then they would need Jah Crew to defeat FoF Mark III.

The Extreme Archery Ground was pumping prior to kick off.  Despite Skyrim failing to win a game all season, they had drawn in Round 1 with the Honey Badgers and had shared the points in 6 other games so Mr Shephunter knew it wouldn't be a walk in the park.

With the home side playing a 433 and the Honey Badgers playing 451, this would be a game of contrasting styles.  The Honey Badgers were first to get a shot away in the 8th minute but unfortunately a dream start was prevented by the right post.

The Honey Badgers seemed to be getting control of the game when against the run of play Skyrim opened the scoring in the 19th minute.  Young forward Beto Vicente toe poked the ball past a badly out of place Kubilay Biler.  It was certainly not the start Mr Shephunter was looking for.

Tempers were starting to flare midway through the first half.  In the space of 6 minutes the referee handed out 3 yellow cards.  The Honey Badgers couldn't be sucked into these niggling tactics if they wanted to win the game.

Towards the back end of the first half the Honey Badgers started to gain ascendancy.  Their superior midfield were controlling the ball beautifully.  Unfortunately they couldn't create any chances.  The referee blew the whistle for half time with the score reading 1-0 to the home side.

Word came through during the half time interval that Jah Crew were leading 1-0.  Mr Shephunter stressed to his side that they couldn't rely on Jah Crew winning the game and had to make things happen in the second half.

Both managers must have gave their sides instructions to attack as the second half started with numerous shots on goal.  Something foreign in the first half.  In the 70th minute Mr Shephunter felt he needed a change of personnel if his side was to have any chance of winning.  He brought on Max Adelgren for Eduardo Bartolomeu.

The substitution had an immediate effect with the Honey Badgers leveling the scores in the 73rd minute.  Veteran Emanuel Rangel blasted a rocket from 30 yards that beat the keeper all ends up.  The Honey Badgers had a sniff now and wouldn't be holding back.

In the 84th minute Skyrim came agonisingly close to going ahead but fortunately the right post saved the Honey Badgers.  A collective sigh of relief went through the away side's bench.

With time getting away from the Honey Badgers, the situation was getting desperate.  In the 86th minute the miracle they were looking for, happened.  Shaqeel van Persie put a beautiful pass into the penalty box for Mumtaz Mansiz who got a toe kick onto the ball and put it into the back of the net.  The Honey Badgers had a few minutes to hang on now.

Thankfully the whistle blew to end the game not long after.  The Honey Badgers would be spending another season in the Premiership.

Mr Shephunter was pleased as punch with the late goal from Mansiz.  "Unbelievable!  You never give up hope but I have to admit my confidence was low when the clock ticked over 70 minutes.  However the boys really dug in and scored two late goals to seal our fate.  I really didn't want to be one of those teams that go up and down divisions.  Especially after all the hard work we've put in over the past few seasons to get to the top flight.  We'll celebrate now before planning for next season."
