Pompey draw - run-in starts... |
Blues frustrated with point as Omega get what they came for (?)
Omega Lions under boss Hugh1971 didn't quite 'park the bus' - but put it this way, they didn't leave the car-park. Designed to frustrate Pompey it worked, as the Blues failed to score despite being ahead on chances 3-1. But a goal-less draw wasn't *that* far off fair, "especially when you consider the away team can score with that single chance," reckoned Scott McGarvey.
In the reverse fixture (6 weeks ago), Pompey had lost at Omega's Bootham Crescent ground 0-1, despite being ahead 7-4 on chances. So, an overall 10-5 count over the 2 'legs' didn't leave McGarvey too thrilled with having 1 point out of a possible 6, whilst his opponent gleaned 4. In a table this tight it's those single chances that are converted that make all the difference.
Pompey are 2nd, but only on goal difference from Uskan Raiders; and there's only 3 points down to 5th spot (currently occupied by Omega), just above the relegation places. It's hard though to see past the 3 occupants in 6th, 7th and 8th - currently Fresian FC, Satfläsk IF and Paxtons Pink - as favourites for the drop. Though none of their opponents will take anything for granted when they face them, in this - a paper-thin tight division.
The Blues run-in looks 'a bit iffy' - at home to the early leaders (from week 3 to 6) BK Rangers, then another home game against Fresian FC before finishing with what looks a pig of a fixture at Champions Elect (?) radicais livres.
Manager McGarvey still has to blend in playing time for maybe 4 players too - though thankfully the 3 keepers on the Blues books are all but done! But the Blues' boss recognises that his team are starting to look a bit 'leggy' and surely won't risk everythign on promotion - not the development of the next 'batch' - you'd have thought anyway??
