Bjurstrom makes surprise return... |
Nalle Bjurstrom made a surprise return to the Gentlemen's Practice starting line up in their cup encounter against a difficult Kungholmens FF. Bjurstrom was badly injured in GP's first game of the season and looked set for serious time on the sidelines, with manager Gareth Phoenix forced into the transfer market to find a replacement. Incredibly Phoenix managed to pursuade goalkeeping legend Salomao Passada to once again take up his gloves and has since been incredible form in Bjurstrom's absence, leading many to claim he could take the number 1 jersey as his own.
Phoenix, though, was quick to reiterate that Bjurstrom is his number 1 and is looking to get him back up to speed as soon as possible, "listen I understand why people say that. Big Sal has pretty much won it all in X11 and I believe he's going to become an integral part of this team and where this squad go from here; but Nally has been here since he was 17 and has been our number 1 for 9 seasons now.
"Being a former keeper myself I know that confidence is everything so I'm going to back him to the hilt and he deserves to be number 1. Sal knows the score, he knows where we stand and he'll have the opportunity to push Nally for the jersey; but the main positive I see is Nally learning from Sal in training, and this situation only brings positives to the team.
"In terms of the game yesterday I don't think we were at our best but the youngsters got minutes under their belt and Nally walked straight back into the team with a string of fine saves. The tie is no where near over and we won't be taking anything for granted in a week's time thats for sure. Right now though, we have to focus on the league game on Monday against a very well versed and experienced PSV team."
