The best Brutez ever? |
It was interesting to read a comment on my last press release from resident Ultimate League statto theAperson that the current Amsterdam Brutez team is the strongest its ever been. Even stronger than the cup winning Brutez team of season 24, or the one developed by legendary manger Leftblank.
I was very surprised by this fact, given that the team isn't even the current strongest in Division 3e, let alone the top three divisions. The current team has a number of players of at least 15 skill and above, and it is this my fellow reporter stated that made us the strongest.
The cup win was all the way back in 2012. I don't have details of the skill of that team but what Aperson says is probably true. Does this mean that it was easier to win official league silverware back then? Was the game still in its infancy that uber teams had not been developed? Where managers back then not as good at developing players as they are now?
Personally, i think its a mixture of all those things. Certainly back in 2012 the league was full of managers of varying abilities. Yes, it still had top managers but these were spread out amongst all the official leagues, with the original Swedish leagues probably being tougher than the newer 'international leagues' With the reduced user base the managers that are left are no longer newbies. They know what they are doing and have had years developing their skills to maximise players DV, playing the transfer market. I look back at old change reports from 2012 and its embarasshing how poor they are compared to today's high standards.
The cup was always the easiest bit of silverware to win, as it is in real life. A lucky draw and a bit of luck in one off games can see you win. The quality of past winners is testament to this fact. Todays Ultimate league is dominated by 3 or 4 quality teams, with quality managers under their belts. its on very few occasions that the underdogs now win.
But is this team really the best ever? In a word no. Leftblank did more for the game then i ever will with his guide. Snirp, who was manager when we won the cup, was a far better manager then i will ever be. So perhaps the stats will point towards us being the best ever, but in reality we are a long way off.
