Once again GDU failed to beat an opponent despite being in a winning position (1-1 against The Peach Blossoms). The same scenario happened in all of their last three matches and with the draws turned into wins we might be in with a good chance on the title. Anyway, all ifs and buts aside: the dream of a Ladies title is over for GDU (for now) and it's manager (for-maybe-ever). However, survival is a certainty for the Aussie girls and the leaving manager will hand over a squad capable of staying where they are.
Leaving manager?
Yes, indeed. Stoner has hinted at a club exit after next week's tie against old friend/foe and his Fajar Khatulistiwa FC. The two clubs rose through the divisions and clinched four promotions in a row with 1-2 finishes (usually it was on us to progress via the nail-biting play-offs). The Austrian has taken this very special side as far as he possibly could. It is a team full of players from its academy and no other players were signed in the process. His very first target of leading this very old club back to its former heights (a Division 2 participation in seasons 1-3 with a 5th place finish being the record), was surpassed and in the end, getting promoted to the very highest Division with such a unique squad will hardly ever be repeated. Back in 2015, the squad was lingering in the lower regions of the leagues with a squad not even worth 20 mil. econs and around 5 mil. econs in the bank. A squad value of over 100 mil. econs reflects a pretty good piece of work by the manager in the past 4 years, which will hopefully be taken on by another dedicated soul.
