Trailing 1-2 from the first leg, Iron FC knew what they needed to do in tonight's second leg against Solvang Sharks: win by two goals or more, or win by a goal but score more than two goals, any other result would have seen them drop out of the Cup. Iron got off to a great start as Hultqvist headed Gato's cross into the back of the net straight from kickoff. However, the visitors then lost Ball to injury in the 5th minute, young forward Burgess coming on in his place. Solvang equalized before the break, before adding a second in the first minute of the second half.
Iron manager Potemy then rang the changes, bringing on Pucknell and McDougald in the 50th minute. That galvanized the side as they clawed their way back onto level terms in the 58th minute, McDougald finding Nylén smartly inside the box. Hultqvist then netted his second before Oyedele put away a 69th-minute penalty to put Iron 4-2 up. Solvang scored one final goal in the 83rd minute, but it would not be enough with the aggregate score ending 5-5 and Iron FC progressing on away goals.
"We talk about the business end of the pitch, but just take a look at the other end where Martins was making saves of the season throughout the game," enthused Potemy after the match. "We didn't even deserve to win this game, would have given it to Solvang maybe 3-2 or 4-2, but he kept us in it, and at the other end we were clinical with our chances. On to the next round!"
