Super Kings were handed their first cup defeat as they head towards the Super League Cup exit last saturday. Manager Sayan44 went with same 3-5-2 formation as their Cup opponent Engine Room came prepared for it. Without their key midfielder Benicio Alckmin, Kings were no match for their opponents. They failed to put pressure on Engine Room despite having more possession on the ball. On 58th minute, Silas Carlsen's curling shot inside the penalty area went into the Kings net as Kings failed to respond to that goal. As a result, Kings fans were left stunned and went home empty handed after Super Kings got dumped from the cup competition in the 5th round.
Sayan44 later said,
"Football is a cruel game. You make one mistake and you are punished heavily. I did the same, went with Alckmin in the league game despite having on a caution of suspension. He picked up an yellow in that game, and he was suspended for the Cup. We lost half of the game their. Other half was lost by my tactical mistakes, as I presumed opponent is guaranteed to go with 3-5-2 formation as they also have their key defender injured and out for the game. But it turns out, I was wrong, they went with 451 varied instead, with a young defender in their line up. I made two mistakes, and my team had to suffer this great loss. I am frustrated, as I could've handled things better and could've had a chance to win the game. I fully take the responsibility of this defeat and would welcome any decision made by the board.
But, given the chance of keeping this Job, I will try my best to put this team above everything, and take the team forward in the league. Now our only goal is to win the Division so that our Cup failure gets erased from fans and players mind. In order to do that, we have to overcome, first Vila Xurupita, on tuesday, in the league.
