Bribe, Blubb Blubb and bruise blunders |
"Luke Bribe is a lenient man, he lets play continue so the first half of our opening day fixture was a joy of free-flowing football," rose-tints Matchstick Men manager Tony Brazil, "all the better for us leading one-nil at half-time.
"In the second half something about Bribe changed and he sent off our captain Graciano 'Granite' Quintas. True a Blubb Blubb player was stretchered off after a meaty tackle, but that's never bothered Bribe before.
"Down to ten men at the Kodachrome against a fired up Blubb Blubb; we never stood a chance. They were soon leading two one then Luke Bribe got another rush of blood to the head and awarded Blubb a penalty.
"Blubb Blubb's keeper sauntered the length of the pitch to take the spot-kick, and scored it. He never even made it back to his own goal before Bribe whistled for the end of the match."
Brazil looks at a letter demanding he attend a disciplinary hearing., "I told Bribe some home-truths about his whistling in the match today and now I've got to go to this thing. Granite has already been suspended for three matches.
"They'll probably suspend me from a crossbar! Seriously though, I've learned my lesson and know I blundered; I will never choose Bruise again," Brazil laughs, "does that sound contrite enough?"
