Addiction Takes The Cup! |
.....
It was Division 1 verses Division 4 in this years Xpert Ladies Cup Final as Janes Addiction finally prevailed over Busby Babes on Saturday, thanks to Yilinga Kiala's 90th minute strike from a corner kick provided by Marina Hibbitt.
But the drama didn't end there, as there was much controversy when the Babes lone striker Engla Bangman slotted home what seemed an equalising goal just three minutes later, only to be ruled for offside. The subsequent VAR check took some time to clear up, but once it was ruled out it was only a matter of moments before referee Al Beback blew for full time and handed the Addicts their first major trophy in the XEL.
Addiction boss LFC73 said it was the most nerve wracking watch of his entire X11 career!
"I certainly wasn't up for this, especially as I was watching Liverpool's tame effort at Watford at the time! It didn't really sink in until a few hours later when I was really able to take it all in and have some real cause to celebrate!
"But I have to give it to the girls, who stuck to the task at hand. Their (Busby Babes) very defensive tactics nullified our attempts to get through and create decent chances, but we kept at it, hoping that it was just a matter of time before a real opportunity presented itself. And what a time to do it! We were staring at extra time until Kiala nailed that goal, and I was whooping all over the place. But the drama that unfolded shortly after was hard to take, until VAR got the correct decision!
"All credit to the Babes though, they gave us a right tough match, and what more could you expect from a Cup Final?
"I had stated at the start of the season that after last years efforts and costs to reach the semifinal stage, that we wouldn't be so stringent in our Cup efforts this season in order to concentrate more on the League. But as things progressed along reasonably well through the different rounds, it became apparent that this was something that we could really achieve.
"I am glad that we "went for it" as such, and while its cost a bit of money, and been slightly detrimental to our league efforts, it's all been worth it to finally put a top honour X11 accolade in the cabinet!
"Celebrations were unfortunately a little subdued for the girls as we have a MASSIVE match at Pepita's Team on Tuesday, where if we fail we will be staring at a playoff game on Thursday, but I will let them loose once the season is fully completed no matter what the outcome!"
