Gentleman's Practice eventually came out on top of a titanic battle between 1st and 2nd in Division 4i. Charl Day was the hero of the day with two screamers. One opened the scoring from a free-kick after Jon-Arnar Rodulsson rolled it to his left to tee up the opener. Day's second came just five minutes after Alcoentra FC got a goal back after they went in at half-time 2-0 down. With the score now poised at 2-1 Day smashed a long range shot into the top corner to take the game by the scruff of the new k with half an hour left.
However it took just two minutes for the hosts to get another back and force a nervy end for manager Gareth Phoenix...
Phoenix:
It was the toughest of finishes to the game in a very hostile environment but the lads held their nerve and didn't panic. Alcoentra are a tough, tough opponent don't think anything else and to come here needing a result and get it is nothing short of brilliant. I'm very proud of them all.
What you don't see is that the lads have all gone back home and are in early for a light session before we get focused on our next opponents who we are under no illusion are coming to The Couldron for all 3 points. It's up to us to remain focused and ensure that doesn't happen. If we can do that then maybe we can discuss other things... we still have a job to do.
