Pepperoni pope on a spaghetti rope
"Manager of the round, a win against Northern Soul Ladies, and did I mention I'm manager of the round?" Lupa boss Tony Brazil is flying on the lavish refreshments offered in the post-match hospitality room, "I feel like spinning on my head to some Northern Soul boogie wonderland grooves so lets get this party started."
The food has been supplied cheaply by street vendors getting rid of unsold stock after the Pope mourning events, there's a lot of 'pope on a rope' snacks made with pepperoni and spaghetti. The baskets of 'communion wine' miniature bottles are going down a treat, their syrupy texture complements the stale, pepperoni popes and wafers. There's also something on the table with psychedelic properties, named 'Angel Wings'. It takes all sorts.
Brazil staggers out onto the darkened pitch head already spinning, Angel Winged to his eyeballs. He relives in his head the goal scored by Filomena Ortis that gave Lupa a 1-0 victory, grinning, "not our first win of the season, but this washes away the memory of our defeat by Ramsgate last time we played at home."
Brazil then relieves himself in the away dug out, "a manager of the round's right", and returns to abuse the wine, popes and dopes tables. Brazil's night will end in the emergency ward, this Roman hospitality leads to the hospital but that's a lesson he will never learn. After all Brazil demands that a victory and a good season demands a celebration. So does winning Manager of the Round, did he mention that?
