Eagles
Gmswjambo's PA, Mrs Trellis of North Wales, has recently been spending some time with her German friend, Engel. After meeting through Trellis's good friend Agnes, this latest chat was a rare meeting between the two of them, due to Agnes having the flu. Their conversation went a bit like this:
Trellis: I had a nice email from my friend in Spain, Isabella. Have I mentioned her before.
Engel: Ah, maybe?
Trellis: She's the one with the sort of smallholding. Some goats, chickens, and all that filth.
Engel: Ah, ja, it was her, I think, you give funny expression for her to describe - fine Bristols, no?
Trellis: Indeed, I believe that was her. Well, let me tell you, she's having terrible trouble.
Engel: Really? Are things, ah, "going south"?
Trellis: Somewhat. And it made me think of you. Apparently her chickens are being eaten by eagles!
Engel: Ah, and you thought, that sounds like Engel!
Trellis: That's right.
Engel: But what are the - how did you say, "ee-gellz" - doing to the chickens?
Trellis: That's right, and your pronunciation is coming along wonderfully. But, as to your question, well, they are hunting them, aren't they?
Engel: Did you say "hunting". You mean, as in catching and killing?
Trellis: Of course. They come down from the mountains and steal the chickens right out of their pens!
Engel: And you say an eagle? An eagle does this?
Trellis: Well, of course! They are highly predatory, aren't they?
Engel: Predatory? Predatory of chickens?
Trellis: Of course they are! They fly down from the mountains, kill the chickens, then take them back to their nests!
Engel: They fly...nests.... Oh wait, hang on, I think I see... In German, ein igel is...*he laughs*... a hedgehog.
As for CA Lisieux P.A., goals from Costinha and Laplanche earned what could prove to be a crucial win over Rastafar IS (1-2), opening up a three-point cushion to Doktiga Grabbar with a goal to go in the play-off chase. Credit to DG, they managed to hold runaway leaders, Gregory Gains, to a draw while we were at RIS. Those two face-off on the last day, 3rd vs 4th, although the Rastas are now out of the running after our win. Gmswjambo's men, meanwhile, face Baken Avalanche, sitting 6th and relegated. Will theu still be playing for pride or handing starts to the handful of youths they have mixed in with the experienced old hands? We're hoping so...
