Oliveira Injury The Difference
Mancaster United came close to achieving the League double this evening over League leaders Roker FC.
The Reds dominated the visitors, despite going behind to a Munroe thunderbolt in the 19th minute, deservedly equalizing in the 34th minute with a superb poacher's goal from their outstanding twenty year old striker Ove Seve.
The second half opened in sensational fashion as the Reds stormed out of the blocks in what was becoming a scintillating top of the table clash. Dopudja put United ahead with another clinical finish inside the box and the Reds were swarming all over the opposition.
Everything changed in the 50th minute when veteran midfielder Oliveira, who had been subject to man marking throughout the game, succumbed to the effects of a first half knock and had to leave the field.
Teenager Marschall replaced him and played manfully in the absence of the injured Onofre, but the difference in class and experience told and Roker began to claw back control in midfield and inevitably drew level just eight minutes from the end.
A fair result overall in a pulsating encounter.
