From Toots to Titan and into the unknown
"Shoot from anywhere now, what have we got to lose?" Matchstick Men manager Tony Brazil implores his players. It is the final round of the Champions league group stage, it is 0-0 at 70 minutes and opponents Gladiators have just brought on another hefty, veteran defender into the dense thicket of their defence.
"Goal!" Brazil erupts a minute later. Redde does as ordered and his long range speculator drifts into the top corner of the Gladiators goal. The match ends as a 1-0 win for Matchstick Men, but celebrations are muted due to COSMOS scoring three against Toot Bumps to win the group on goal difference.
Brazil falters in his press conference due to the increased amount of media crammed into the room, "it's nice to see new faces here and know our profile has spread across the Xpert Globe. After our two nil win in the last Champions League match we travelled from Toots to Titan in the league where we faced Thanos.
"It was two nil again as Redde and Costamera scored our goals to keep us in the title hunt, then we rushed back home to Estadio Lucifer for this match the next day. Redde did the business again, he's midfield gold, but as you know we end up in second place.
"At the start of the group stage our hopes were to get second place, so here we are. Qualified," Brazil shouts, "QUALIFIED. Excuse me, now we go further into the unknown of the knockout stages."
A press hack asks a question, "who do you fear most in the tournament?"
Brazil smiles, "all of them son, all of them."
