Flattered to deceive |
UU Accies pushed through to the next Round of the Hattrick Cup with a 5 -2 second leg home win over G.D.P., an aggregate of 7 – 3.
Being 2 – 1 down from the first leg the visitors started very well, surprising the Accies back line with a quick punt Caracario Turrini that René Vekl got on the end of to score in the second minute. But the home side settled and equalised on 19 minutes when Hisao Okazaki fired one in from distance. The home team were bossing the pitch but couldn’t stretch their lead and the team went in at the break level on the night. Joaomateus00 vigorously applauded his players off the pitch fir their sterling efforts.
The second half started with the Accies on the front foot but again their defence seemed to be caught napping when Vekl scored again in the 54th minute but he was a yard offside and the goal was disallowed. Two minutes later the home side went ahead when Bruce Prattis headed home Drew Harsley’s cross and you might have thought the Accies had done enough.
But G.D.P. were not done yet and, from the restart, played quick ball that did catch out the Accies defensive unit for Sílvio Gaucho to score the equalizer on 59 minutes. Joaomateus00’s joy last a full 15 minutes before second half sub Louis Dunstan headed in the Accies’ third then Bogdan Zabelin rifled one low and hard from 12 yards out to put the home team safe. Riccardo Lanna rounded off the goal feast on 90 minutes with a well-timed run and dink.
A good Cup result for UU Accies that sees them into Round 4 and up against Division 3c’s S-Clean FC who have scored an incredible 41 competitive goals already this season, 29 of them in the Cup! We can see how that match will pan out.
KElliott, though, was just delighted to see his team win but wasn’t too impressed. “We’re leaking like the Titanic this season! That’s the third time in four games we’ve saw 3 in the onion bag. Okay, G.D.P. had one chalked off but not before it went in. I’ve got the guys training on a limited budget to do all we can but it’s a real struggle.
“We’ll keep going, though, always giving our all and hopefully we’ll turn the corner in the near future.
