Last act of sentiment |
Tomorrow in the cup will see, for the last time (barring an injury tsunami), 2 old legends take the field. This will probably be the last and best opportunity to risk sentimentality for 2 digital men, and allow 2 of our most outstanding servants to say goodbye to the home fans.
Gimi Humuhumu Nucuapua played last week to make him the most capped Babs player of all time, but the 37 year old will play in front of home fans in his 276th appearance, and 35 year old defender Aamos Ääritalo will make it 199 games.
Together they cost merely a press release sponsor bonus, other teams' unwanted property, yet have been relentless club stalwarts for a decade and a half doing untold good work in getting the club to where we are now, a far better position than when they joined the club. We helped each other but our rise up the divisions has coincided with their decline, so forcing their careers to fizzle out, but they are forever in our memories.
Fellow Promotees Share Spoils
At home against last season's division 4 rivals, BeatMap FC, we managed a 1-1 draw in what was a tight game with not much entertainment on show. It makes it a bog standard start to the campaign with a win, loss and a draw. But if we manage to maintain that ratio throughout the season then at least we should survive, and that has to be our aim despite the obvious desire to do better.
