| Poetic injustice |
Consider the day of the qualifier.
Exactly 13 seasons earlier, at the end of season 39, we played what was then our first attempt at reaching Division 1.
Then, just like now, we finished in second place in Div 2, and subsequently played a qualifier.
Then, just like now, we lost 1-0.
Then, just like now C Maradona, M van der Kruis & H Ramsay stood on the other side.
Then - Aspiring juniors.
Now - The captain, the goal scorer and the star.
That's right.
Then, just like now, we played Accpits Bollklubb.
The only two times in history that we have met. History repeats itself some say.
If life would have been a Hollywood film, we would have won the game played this past weekend. We would have got our revenge!
Alas.
For a team that was at least two or three seasons past best before date, it was not a small accomplishment reaching a Div 2 qualifier. Sure, we were helped by the fact that two teams in our division are without managers. Two strong teams but so were our opponents. We did our part, and earned that spot.
We tried the best we could, but it wasn't enough.
Again we find ourselves falling just short of reaching Division 1.
Two out of two. That is a start of a trend...I assure you, next time we have the chance we will take it.
So, with that, Atlin Alpine SC turn a new page, as we go all in on a generational change this season!
Onwards we go!
