VNU beat Sporting to ease away from drop

Viking North Utsire bounced back from the tribulations of last week to record a fine away win at old rivals Sporting Mancunia this Monday, top scorer David Austrheim bundling home his 11th of the season in the 19th minute to take all three points back to Utsira in a timely fashion. It lifted the Norsemen four points clear of the Mancunians, who now occupy the last relegation place after being leapfrogged by a point by Coimbra FC, whereas Viking and Sporting would have found their positions reversed had the result gone the other way. With no further Ultimate League Cup games this term the Utsirans can concentrate fully on their remaining five Division 1a fixtures as they look to secure a fifth non-consecutive term at this level (interrupted by two quick in-and-out excursions to the top flight); at present they are in the exact same 4th position where they finished the last campaign. They could not be more midtable if they tried, in fact; seven points behind 2nd and seven above second-bottom, 9-9 for goals with the side above them on 9-7 and the side below (two in fact) on 7-9. It is Cardiff Dragons who have their snouts in front, based on GD right now, though as the Welshmen go to table-topping Partizan Belgretna next -- while Coimbra must face co-leaders Ichnusa -- there is a chance for Viking to jump to 3rd when they host bottom club Scottys RFC at Dogger Bank.
