Thriller at Foul Winds Park |
With VfB and The Fifth Column both entering last week's match in need of a win, but terrified of losing, it turned out to be a very tense game at VfB's home ground. The home side were given a huge case of the jitters early on as the Column got off to a strong start, forcing the ball home on 19 minutes and sending VfB manager Evilneeson's blood pressure sky high.
Thankfully, he was able to calm down by half time and emphasised patience and persistence to his players - who clawed their way back into the match with an equaliser on 50 minutes. After a spectacular free-kick from Nestor Sensini sent the home side ahead on 83 minutes, we had a nerve-wracking end to the game as it seemed that the away side equalised 4 minutes later - but fortunately VAR was on our side and the goal was disallowed, allowing us to hold on and claim the 3 points.
The Fifth Column were assured of their survival thanks to results elsewhere, and we now have to focus on scoring as many goals as possible in our final game at home to bottom side USB Expert, in order to leapfrog at least one of the 2 teams above us and try to nab a promotion playoff spot (or even first place, if we are very lucky indeed).
