Pain
Following an injury to key midfielder Leonardo Smith against Detroit 442, the Mongrels went into the second leg of their cup game away against Polar Utd without much hope.  Losing a goal in 8 minutes and it looked like our cup run was done.  However, we were able to go into the break at 1-1.

In the 73rd minute Polar went ahead again, but ten minutes later we had pulled it back to 2-2 and then in the final minute we somehow snatched a winner and went into the hat, only to be pulled out to face the 35th seed. Completely Random.

We went into our league game against Detroit with a new formation, having to again leave Leonardo out due to his injury in the first leg of the turn around.  The game got ugly early as Mats Arbam had to limp off following a shocking takle by Conny Landling, which deserved a red.

Detroit went ahead in the 59th minute but we were able to pull it back to 1-1 within ten minutes.  Then Fernando Marcon assaulted Percy Holdsworth, putting him into the long term injury camp and unsettling the Mongrels team, to see the third player in the squad to have been injured by Detroit.

The Mongrels couldn't secure a winner despite having the chances and most of the play.  The manager did not appear happy after the game:

"Shocking, bloody animals.  I had heard Detroit was a rough town following the decline of the motor industry, but I had no idea that the team had adopted the philosophy of the city - brutalism is best.

"We have certain teams that we consider that we have a friendly rivalry against, or that they are 'auld enemies'.  We are now adding Detroit to the list of those that we consider dangerous, and that next time we face off the aggression will be set to Injure, badly."

On the Mongrels!
