Well, that was short-lived |
The positivity surrounding FK Radnik Roystjina after last week, when they won both their games (and collected their first league points of the season in the process) evaporated after they were beaten 2-1 at home in a key clash against a Sweatpea side who had sat just above Radnik in the league and also having a generally poor season.
The visitors took only 7 minutes to puncture the upbeat mood around the Gradski Stadion, their first serious attack ending with a headed effort to put them ahead. Radnik had spells of pressure after this, but failed to create too many chances and instead fell further behind when the visitors scored again on 71 minutes.
Hussin El Azhary pulled a goal back for the hosts on 75, Sweatpea showing their own vulnerabilities after their recent poor run, but the home side were unable to build on this and fell to a painful defeat. It was one that leaves the Roystjina side rather marooned at the foot of the Division 2c at the halfway point - they are four points adrift of Sweatpea and AFC Wrexham, and these sides are both also on the wrong side of the relegation cut line; the gap to Bayer Neverlosen in fifth is now six points.
Radnik boss Janik commented, "well, that was deflating! We started poorly and never really recovered. Unfortunately this might have killed all our momentum stone dead."
