Minutes away from a great escape
Old Fain 1 - 5 Banana Grove
(Banana Grove are relegated)
Heading into the last two games of the season, Banana Grove knew they would need something of a miracle to stay up. They would need The Tykes to lose their last two games while the Grove needed to win theirs and claw back a goal difference deficit.
With 88 minutes gone on the last day of the season, that miracle was on track. Stevie Connery had just put the Banana Boys 5-1 up in their game. Then news filtered through that The Tykes had equalised with their only chance of the game against Cerin Amroth. Dave's men had done their bit but it wasn't to be as they missed out on safety by a point.
"To finish with a +6 goal difference and get relegated is a tough one to take. Our performances this season would be enough to stay up in most other years," said Dave. "But the reality is we were never consistent enough. We went five games without winning towards the end of the season and that isn't good enough."
There is speculation about whether Dave will remain manager of the club now that the aim of staying in Division 5 for another season hasn't been met.
