Fumega in betting scandal

João Fumega has been sidelined for much of the season after being more involved in Oeiras' last campaign. He has not dealt well with the extra time on his hands however, and it has emerged that his involvement in future matches will be impossible after investigators found he had been betting on his own team. In an apparent desperate attempt to claw back lost revenue in appearance fees, Fumega, 28, had placed a number of bets on Oeiras to win, or score in each game this season. Ironically, these bets have seen him make his losses even worse. While there is no suggestion of match fixing, Fumega will still need to sit out the remainder of this season and much of the next season when OA will be back in the bottom division in the pyramid.
