Oops, we did it again
"Everybody thought we would be an 'one-hit wonder', didn't they?"

Among tear drops of happiness, champagne baths and flashed memories to the history books, Hernas answered to the reporters that attended to the press conference after the 2-0 victory over AFC Ajax that sealed the deal:

"Last campaign we proved that we could definitely beat the best opposition only with players from our academy, but this season we took a step forward. We have done it even better, with 2 matches to go and playing throughout 3 different competitions. Few here know what it is to play for the Championship on a Tuesday, for the XL Champions League on a Wednesday and for the Cup on a Friday. It is complete madness, nothing less than chaotic. Bad form, injuries, suspensions...you name it. We had to go through it all, and we came out on top.
With all our handicaps - with the squad and mainly with the finances - we have properly defended our title. Who would have expected us to be champions last season? And how many of them would believe that we would have the capacity to do it all over again? Guess no one but us."

Asked on how was it possible to bring such a team to unexpected successes in a row, he replied:

"I said earlier this season that we wouldn't be satisfied just by touching the sky once, we would have to do it twice somewhere down the line...and we did it sooner than later. This was a brilliant job that ended up proving we are definitely the best team around and we are setting the standard extremely high for the ones wanting to have it a go."

Questioned on if the team can be more competitive next season on the XCL, he stated:

"If the injuries and suspensions can give us a break...That is the part that still hurts me the most, not having the full squad available since the second match with constantly key midfielders absent from the games. With the full squad available, I'm certain we could have qualified from the group stage with ease, at least."

When asked about next season, he said:

"The team had its best campaigns. We need to build a team around these youngsters we have now and, who knows, maybe in a medium or long term we can make it happen again. We need to settle the finances issues once and for all, and of course selling our best assets is one way to sort it quicker...
But on the bright side, we had the chance to see such amazing players bring success to the club, to our legacy and, specially, to take this path unique in the whole history of X11. We are the only ones winning the top division, starting from the bottom all the way up with the lads from the youth academy, and later on win it twice in a row, with just 12 matches played.

This was good, wasn't it?"
