Last chance saloon |
Borgis FC have made it into the Xtreme League Cup final for the very first time.and now they have a date with destiny against the current, and potentially all-time, best team in all of Xpert Eleven, Tour de France.
It is a journey that started over four years ago when the current squad was carefully crafted by manager Adam Moran in the hope of one day finally bringing some success to the Borgis faithful. And the plan was almost executed perfectly until Borgis unfortunately came up against the ultimate foe in Tour de France.
Managed by the world's number one, Blu3red, Tour de France have won the last three Xtreme League titles in a row and have already put their name on the fourth. That will be five in six seasons once the final round is over next week. They are also the reigning Xtreme League Cup champions having also won it twice in the last three seasons. Tour de France are also the reigning, back-to-back Xpert Champions League winners. Oh, and don't forget they were August's Team of the Month. They are unbeaten in their last SEVENTY-SIX official games. That's almost one hundred. Unprecedented.
As for Borgis? They have been runners-up in the league for the past three seasons and look like favourites to finish there again for a fourth time. In the Cup, they finished in the quarter-finals two seasons ago and reached the semi-finals last time out. This will be their first ever final.
It's important to also note that Borgis have never beaten Tour de France in eight meetings, securing just the one draw and scoring three goals along the way. The cards really are stacked against Borgis and manager Adam Moran admits that it will take a sheer miracle for his men to come away with the trophy.
"It saddens me to go into a game with pretty much every man and his dog betting against us. I understand why, of course. We are playing against an anomaly. They have won the lot and their manager still doesn't seem content. What I would do for one taste of success. It's going to take a miracle for that to happen but the lads are ready to give it the games of their lives.
On this being his team's last shot, Moran added,
"This the last chance saloon for sure. I've talked about pushing the button on the team for the past few seasons given their ages but this really is it. What a way to go out, huh? I really do keep dreaming of the Hollywood finish, but I'm under no illusion Xpert Eleven is no film studio. The fans know that and there's a mutual understanding that we're all in this final ride together going out in a blaze of glory no matter what happens.
"All I hope is that we don't pick up any suspensions in the league game tomorrow against West Side BC as that really would be a killer blow. We need to come away from there healthy and happy and then go for it Friday. Bring it on!"
