Pikers accomplish favorite number feat! |
SEASAW BEACH ARENA - The Newtonville Pikers accomplished something of a rare oddity during Friday's opening round Cup match, a three-nil victory over Seasaw Beach at Seasaw Beach Arena.
For the first time in the club's history, the gray side (ironically wearing their alternate whites) started 11 players who were all wearing their favorite number. Furthermore, the numbers were ordinal, a perfect 1 through 11, starting from the back with keeper Ernesto Corrales. The club's defenders, wore no. 2, no. 3, no. 4, & no. 5, midfielders numbers 6 through 10 and lone forward Henry Watts wore number 11. Again, all numbers were the individual players' favorite numbers.
"The match came and went, and to be honest you, I was kind of expecting something more." Pikers manager Rockafowla said. "I mean, the three-nil win was nice and all, but I sort of expected the heavens to open up as if we'd unlocked some sort of cosmic bingo. I guess I'm just a little disappointed."
The confused manager added that it wouldn't be too late for the powers that be that run the X-11 to create some sort of a cool prize for such a feat, and he'd be very willing to accept it.
"Honestly, I don't know how many other managers have done it. I'd be curious to know. I know no one really cares, but I sort of wish they did." Rockafowla said.
The Pikers begin league play on Monday at Maguire Court against Trabzon 1967.
