Kumquats reach highest part of the tree |
The Magical Kumquats today rounded off an incredible season by sealing promotion to Division 3. The rise marks the highest point of the Super League the Citrus Grove outfit have ever reached, and left Kumquats fans in dreamland.
With one of the lowest team skills and average ages in Division 4i (mainly due to a Premier League-esque 'hoard then discard' approach to youth players), the Kumquats were expected to consolidate at Division 4 level having been promoted last Season. However, the team have gone from strength to strength as the season has gone on, with veterans like Lazaro Cortez, Marcello Nappi, Aldair Sanches and Peter MacAuley having exemplary seasons.
Manager Stanny80 wanted fans to revel in the joy of promotion, but is also aware of what lies ahead; "We've got a couple of good years left in the squad yet, especially the likes of Leifur Vidatson being in their late 20s and Romano Pas progressing so well. But the next level will be incredibly tough. We don't expect much, but we will squeeze every bit of effort out of everyone at the club to be competitive."
The Kumquats face Keighley Cougars in their last match, and with other statuses depending on the result, will be going all out for a season-ending victory.
