Manager: Shephunter
Kings Make The Most Of Limited Chances
The Switch City Kings travelled to Nya Söderstadion overnight to take on Bajen Avalanche.  Games between these two sides generally favoured the homeside so Kings manager Mr Shephunter knew his side would have to play extremely well to take points from the game.  Led by a strong performance from their defenders the Kings scored a 2-0 victory.  The 3 points came in very handy as it keeps the club in touch with division leaders Sons Of The Phoenix.

With bad memories from the last time they were here the Kings players positioned up awaiting the referee's whistle to start the game with a look of intent in their eyes.  Following an Avalanche free kick miss in the 4th minute the Kings immediately fired back with a shot of their own from Caetano Vaz.  His shot from a ridiculously tight angle cannoned into the crossbar.  So close yet so far!

The two teams settled in for a war.  Neither side could advance the ball downfield with both midfields holding their own.  In the 37th minute the Kings finally opened the scoring.  Following a dangerous tackle just outside the square, the referee awarded the Kings a free kick.  Norm Ashwell went into a trance over the ball imagining how he was going to beat the wall in front of him.  Bang! Ashwell sent a beautifully curling ball just over the wall that kept bending into the top right corner.  The Kings had taken a 1-0 lead just before half time.

Right on the stroke of half time the Avalanche came close to equalising.  Fortunately for the Kings the shot was unsuccessful and they held the all important lead at the break.

In the 64th minute the game took a slight turn in the Kings favour.  Avalanche midfielder Bert-Olof Mild succumbed to a nagging hamstring injury and was replaced with young midfielder Tito Alcantar.  The Kings would be looking to isolate him at every opportunity.

Holding a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes to go, Mr Shephunter made the bold move of bringing on his less experienced players.  Out trundled Lisandro Castroman, Des Broomes and Stefano German.  Just one minute after the bulk changes it looked like he'd pulled the wrong rein when the Avalanche created a breakaway situation.  Fortunately the shot smashed into the crossbar.

Mr Shephunter went from potentially looking like a goose to a genius moments later when replacement forward continued his rich goal scoring vein with the goal that gave the Kings a 2-0 lead.  German used his lightning speed to get out in the clear before sending a lob over the keepers head that would have made Henrik Larsson proud.  German had all but delivered the 3 points for his team.

In the 85th minute Darrell Holt was forced from the field with a twisted ankle.  As Mr Shephunter had already made his 3 substitutions, the Kings were forced to end the game with just 10 men.  However it didn't matter.

Mr Shephunter was a relieved man after the game.  "I'm very happy to get the 3 points.  I was hopeful but not confident about getting a result here today.  The defenders put in a stellar performance and we were able to take our opportunities when they came. We're now only one point off the division leaders so obviously we'll cherish this win."
