Existence is senseless and useless |
“I was born dead,” striker Klas ‘Nihilist’ Nihlgard replies to questions about his behaviour on the pitch, “because of injury I come off the bench to play out of position in midfield, two minutes later a goal goes in for us but is disallowed. Later I am sent off.”
Nihlgard shrugs, “even later, at the last possible moment, a goal goes in – scored by us but into our own net so we lose the match and the chance of promotion.”
Nihlgard shrugs again, “if any of those events mattered, had I been born alive, those events would crush me with overpowering anguish and despair. But I’m fine because everything which happened today confirms my Nihilistic belief that all existence is senseless and useless.”
Manager Tony Brazil crushes an olive into his martini as he listens in, “You have to look on the bright side; for the first time we are safe from relegation. But maybe I’m a nihilist too?
“Because when I’m listening to Niall Quinn on Talksport radio I lose the will to live and also start believing all existence is senseless and useless. Maybe the clue is in Niall's name and he’s the real nihilist here?”
