Part 4 | The AntiChrists wins XCL

Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

"I would hardly call this one of my best XCL's. I've lost more matches in this XCL alone than all of my previous ones put together. I've struggled to convert chances. I barely made it out of the group stage. It took over 180 minutes for The AntiChrists to score in the quarterfinals and it took a penalty shootout to decide the semis. The players are old. The club is poor. The form isn't impressive.

...but if nothing of the above has managed to stop The AntiChrists so far. Who knows... Maybe some boats aren't made to be shipwrecked. They are made to make history. And if The AntiChrists could cruise through all of these storms. All of this bad weather. Maybe we could make it out of one last big wave too."
- Chrille (2015-03-15)

And here I am. Still alive.
The last wave didn't break me either.
My boat remains intact.

XCL CHAMPIONS
4 | Chrille
3 | Motorroger/Nobego/ShadowsDT
2 | Datta/Emanuel.Correia/Gunnar/Hedins/SambaSven

I was being honest about my doubts though. Converting chances hasn't exactly been my strongest attribute over the last couple of months and the XCL final proved that once again. Imagine having lost a game like that? 11 chances? Not a single goal? I'm always extremely nervous for all of my XCL matches - so you can probably imagine that watching a game like this almost gave me a heart attack.

And now I have 4 wins in this tournament. Who would have thought? If you'd asked me in 2009 when I took over the team and began planning for the future - I was indeed full of confidence and genuinely thought I'd be able to achieve these kind of things. But as time progressed and I realized that I'd be competing in an era filled with extremely skilled teams - best I've ever seen to be quite honest - I quickly became more cautious with my expectations.

It allowed me to remain focused. I couldn't allow myself to get carried away. I had to take one game at the time. Do my absolute BEST in every single moment and hopefully that'll lead to success in the end. If I fail - at least I want to fail with the knowledge of knowing that I did everything in my power to succeed - and if that's not enough? Well... Then I have to accept that. But I didn't want any regrets.

It's been tough. Emotionally draining. But I feel pleased. Relieved. Happy. I don't have to chase anyone anymore. I'll be the one people get to chase instead. It's a weird, but nice feeling. Knowing that all your patience, persistence, determination, focus, planning & analyzing paid off. Knowing that you didn't invest all of the time and energy for nothing. You achieved your goals. And you did it in style.

The secret of my success? A combination of many factors. But the most crucial one during these last couple of years has been my ability to read my opponents. It's rare that I lose matches tactically and that combined with a strong team is hard to beat. I've been particularly good in important matches. Which can be seen in the XCL Final Statistics below.
