Estadio Lucifer is ablaze with rumour as Matchstick Men boss Tony Brazil walks bravely into the cauldron of despair that his home stadium has become. The early season's wins have dried up, but Brazil knows he can do better than this - question is do the English FA?
A helicopter lands in a cemetery beside the Lucifer and several FA big-wigs leap out. News is erupting that Sam Allardyce has left the England manager post, and Brazil has to face facts, "I think they're just here to watch a cracking game of football to be honest."
Matchstick Men start the match against Monkey Magic with aplomb, an open and wide attacking display stirs the crowd and an FA chap murmurs approvingly, "swashbuckling!"
Halftime came with Matchsticks leading by a goal though their play deserved more. Some wondered whether Brazil would even return for the second half or be whisked away in that chopper.
The second half however descended into stalemate as Matchstick ran out of ideas, Brazil resorting to shouting at his players to belt it up the field. As FA interest was cooling, the Monkeys drove a nail in the coffin by foraging up field in the 89th minute to score an equaliser with their only chance of the half.
The final whistle blew on another disappointing Matchstick display but by then the chopper was long gone, and with any hope Brazil had of becoming an international manager.
"I could have taken England to a win against Malta," regrets Brazil later over a pint or two of wine.
"So could anyone," sing the Pogues on the jukebox.
