73-1
Today Barston wrapped up their season with a solid effort and convincing 4-0 win. The lads had already secured the title couple weeks ago though today was their day to celebrate. They may have been on the road to finish up this amazing season, but were not alone to celebrate this title and season.
The end of this season marked the club's 4th divisional title. Though the other 3 were never won in such fashion. Right from the start Barston and The Fog were scoring goals and winning. Both teams supplying players who were honored weekly for their achievements. Both teams scored with little regard for their opposition. The Fog finished with 63 goals for and just 9 against. Most seasons that secures you a title. But Barston finished this season bending the twine 73 times and, only once did the twine of Barston's net bend.
Leading this offensive assault is the clubs all time leading scorer; Rudolf Dörr. The man has been with the club since his youth. Last season was a success for Rudolf; and this season just a big step forward. 14 games, 35 pts, 27 goals. Finished as overall scoring champ, top scorer, and most X11 nominations with 14.
As a club we have 6 players who finished this season with 10 or more points. This gives some excitement going forward to next season in Div 5 that the lads should be able to hold their own and continue to grow.
We may never again score goals like we did this season, but sure as hell we will remember it. As the celebrations continue with players and fans this club history grows a little bit more; and surely a little lore has been created by these lads that will be talked about years later by the Barston United faithful.
