Manager contemplates strangling team |
FK Radnik's depressing season ended on a very unexpected high note as the Roystjina side beat runaway Division 2b champions, and newly crowned Master League Cup winners Spadardak in the final game of the season.
Radnik came into the contest, long since relegated, on a three match losing run and with just six points to their name all campaign. Their opponents, meanwhile, boasted an unbeaten run that stretched to twenty-nine games.
However the predicted pattern was absent from the outset, as Radnik more or less matched their visitors. Spadardak did have more of the ball and chances, but only marginally, meaning it wasn't totally against the run of play when Vikram Bisht scored the only goal of the match late on.
Roystjina manager Janik cut a bemused figure after the final whistle, saying "Where did that come from?!? OK, Spadardak included three of their younger players, but then so did we. The main thing is that, if we are capable of playing at this level, then what the hell were the previous thirteen matches about?!? Sometimes I really don't understand my players."
It's a result of absolutely no significance in the long run, as both sides' future trajectories were already well established. However it that didn't stop the long suffering Radnik fans from having a raucous celebration over the shock win.
