Rebels win the XCL |
While there may still be a league fixture left to play on Sunday, Shady Rebels have already won the league, and they followed that up by winning the Xpert Champions League on Wednesday against a resilient Blurp FC side.
It was a close game, but midfielder Sune Ewerlöf put the Dream League side ahead in the 24th minute when he found himself clean through with just the keeper to beat.
The only other noticeable action of the first half saw striker Idowu John booked, which means he would miss the Dream League Cup Final the next evening, as the yellow earned him a suspension.
Blurp pushed hard after the break to try and find the needed equaliser - and nearly did on a few occasions - but as as time ticked by, they were forced to take more risks, as their defence held a higher line, making them more exposed to the counter.
John might not play any part in the Dream League Cup Final, but with two minutes left on the clock he played his part in this final, as he took advantage of the exposure at the back to finish off Novak Uskokovic's pass to put the Rebels 2-0 up, and surely make the game beyond the reach of their opponents.
With the final whistle blowing, the Rebels fans were sent into raptures, as the club secured their second trophy of the season, with a Treble awaiting them should they be able to see off Froggle Rock at the Xpert Arena the following day.
