| Stendy is back!! |
Stendy IF managed to hold on to the second place in Division 1A in an exciting last round with three teams still having a chance to reach the playoffs, and other teams still battling to prevent relegation.
In the playoffs, Stendy met with Unseen Academicals for a decider on who gets to play in the highest division next season.
After a close first half with few chances, Stendy's top players, Nordensjö and Krekel, took the initiative and decided the match with two goals. Krekel really was on fire that second half and had two more excellent chances to increase the lead. Nicusor, who finally was chosen before legend Bolle van Zwolle, kept a clean sheet, despite several attempts by UA.
After the last whistle the Stendy players were showing their emotions. Finally back at the highest level! Coach Ante was especially happy for his team captain, Rick de Leeuw, "Rick came to the club as a youngster in season 36. He was one of the new talents that were to replace the generation that created so many incredible successes in the club's history. He played together with several of his heroes, like Anlert, Van Driessen, Steadman and many more. He was with us the whole way down to Division 5 and through the way back up, with many obstacles".
Captain Rick de Leeuw, who had some trouble with injuries the last few seasons, has announced that the coming season will be his last: "I have fought hard to reach this far, and now I will do all I can one last time to make the coming season a memorable one. After that, it is enough."
