Massive game ends in a draw |
It wasn't the best of weeks for Knights of Cydonia FC in the run up to Christmas. They faced a crucial six pointer against Taunton Town and in the end FC Dragoes were the big winners from that game as we could only draw against the Somerset side, relying on set pieces to score goals. We conceded early on to a Timo Popp effort but won a free kick in a good position that was converted by Gicu Elen. Elen has 6 goals this season which proves we were right to make him free kick taker this time around and we're hoping that will be a considerable difference this season as we attempt to challenge for promotion.
Knights won a penalty in the 85th minute which Matts Lagergren converted but alas we failed to hold onto the lead and Taunton equalised through Raymond Pecher. A disappointing end to the game but considering the tactics both teams employed and the subsequent chance count it was a fair result. Neither manager did enough to get the better of the other though it seems Taunton were happier with the result as they felt we had a stronger side than them.
Seaforth Highlanders were in the cup next and this proved a really difficult game. They are a Division 2 side after all and they had 17 bar midfielders, so it wasn't surprising that when one of them was unmarked and their playmaker while we marked someone on the bench. We lost that game, giving them a crucial away goal, we are however only one goal behind and potentially still in with a chance depending on how the second leg goes but it's likely we are facing a cup exit, we just need to avoid a complete form collapse in the process!
To that end we have a game against F.Y.R. Middlesbrough next. This is the first leg of the double header and while you might look at the league positions and think that Knights are favourites, in truth this is going to be quite a close and unpredictable game. Frankly, we're not sure what we're in for and Aperson has played Shirk multiple times in other leagues. We know they certainly won't make things easy for us, that's for sure...
