The battle for third
Mornington faced off against Amaglug-glug last night in the much-hyped Battle for Third in DIvision 2c. With both teams in development mode, it was anyone's game and the Removalists played a very young team with the hope of winning by the odd goal.
The match started and unsurprisingly, Amaglug domminated possession with their Tiki-Taka game. Mornington were cautiously starting to use a longer ball game but at half-time, it was still 0-0.
Starting the 2nd half, Mornington lost young striker El-Gohary early on and the experienced Mickey Miller came on. Suddenly, it gelled for Mornington. Miloslav slotted a goal on 54 minutes to take the lead and then young striker Markussen took the intiiative, timing his run perfectly to get behind the Glug defence to make it two. Amaglug looked done and so it proved on 71 minutes as Markussen scored his second and the team's third.
A 3-0 win saw Mornington claim the points and 3rd position, cementing a good season for the Removalists in the face of some rebuilding. The CR will be very important this season and Mornington await it nervously.
